ChessFest: Nottingham

A free Chess Festival taking place at Trinity Square - between John Lewis and the Theatre Royal

Nottinghamshire Chess Association invites you to join its celebration of 100 years of organised chess in the County. On Saturday, July 15th, we will hold a grand chess festival at Trinity Square, starting at 10 am and free to all visitors.

The idea of ChessFest is based on the annual event in Trafalgar Square in London. There will be chess sets and tables galore, giant sets to shift around, chess challenges, junior coaching and guidance and information for adults. Best of all, we have engaged International Master Andrew Martin as compere, commentator and simul-giver. He will use a giant LED screen to display and demonstrate chess games and positions.

Individuals, groups and families are all invited to take part completely free. Whether you are a shopper, stopping for lunch, a passerby, a chess enthusiast or just curious to learn more about this great game, come along and join us.

Events

  • Chess games, puzzles and challenges

  • Giant boards and pieces to pick up with two hands

  • Friendly chess coaching and help to get started

  • A visiting chess master challenging you to a game

  • Live action on a giant screen
